闭门造车 (bì mén zào chē )-Learn Chinese idiom

In ancient times, there was a man who wanted to make a fine cart. But, instead of learning how to do it form experts, he shut shimself up at home and worked at it. Despite the time and effort he spent on it, the cart was useless. This chinese idiom means to make a cart behind closed doors or to work behind closed doors; divorce oneself from the masses and from reality; act blindly. It is also used metahhorically to mean being too subjective and disregrading the rest of the world.

To build a cart behind closed doors.

Solar touch screen Calculator with USB Hub

This is a Touch Screen Solar powered calculator and a 4-port hub all rolled into one. I personally doubt the conversion capabilities in such a small solar cell. But what I find attractive is the sleek and futuristic design. It also comes in cool colors like the spring bud green, the ocean blue and the silvery grey.

Stop KFC from continuing cruel treatment- Video

KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. It would be illegal for KFC to abuse dogs, cats, pigs, or cows in these ways.

KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. Many advisors have now resigned in frustration.

An campaign website (kentuckyfriedcruelty.com), a spoof of the original KFC website, provides all the information needed to support this cause.

Lisa's Giant iPhone

On October 30th, iPhone officially launched in China with the China Unicom network. Most of my friends have been using a the unofficial grey phone for about two years so it’s not really that new in China. My friends bought theirs in the US or HK but you can also buy it Beijing if you know where to go.

The official phones start at around RMB 4,999 and go up to RMB 6,999 for the top of the range 3GS 32 GB version. The phones are way more expensive than what they cost in the US and don’t even have Wi-FI, so I would rather wait till next year for the new batch to arrive. The Apple store was pretty busy with a lot of interest in the phone.

But considering the price and lack of WI-FI , I wonder how successful it will really be. They had these cool extra large iPhones displays in the window, so Lisa pretended she was playing on the phone.
